Virtual Conference: Business Combinations: Disclosures, Goodwill and Impairment - What's the Current Proposed Thinking?

The Malaysian Accounting Standards Board is organising an engagement session on IASB DP/2020/1 Business Combinations: Disclosures, Goodwill and Impairment via virtual conference on 18 June 2020.

The virtual conference aims to seek views of the stakeholders of financial statements prepared applying the IFRS Standards and Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRSs). The Discussion Paper aims to explore the possibility of improving the information companies report about acquisitions of businesses to help investors assess how successful those acquisitions have been. The Discussion Paper seeks feedback on how companies should account for goodwill arising from such transactions and also, examines whether to reintroduce amortisation of goodwill. Reintroducing amortisation could reduce the costs of performing the impairment test for companies that recognise goodwill, but it could also reduce the usefulness of the information these companies provide to investors.

The Virtual Conference will be facilitated by Ms. Ann Tarca, a member of the IASB, and Mr. Tim Craig, an IASB technical staff.

Kindly be advised that MASB reserves the right to cancel the event if there is insufficient number of participants.
